This season he returned to NYCO for Sacristan and covers of Baron Trombonok in Il Viaggio a Reims ; returns to Utah Symphony/Opera for Dr. Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and the Major-General in Pirates of Penzance , made his Opera Idaho debut as Ko-Ko, and returns to Opera East Texas (formerly Longview Opera) for Sacristan.
His association with NYCO began with covers of Falstaff and Indiana Elliott's brother in Mother Of Us All, a few seasons ago, and subsequently continued with covers of Leporello, King of Clubs in Prokofiev's Love for Three Oranges , and Sacristan. After the NYCO season, he sang his first Gianni Schicchi for Longview Opera in Texas .
Other companies with which Mr. Wanko has appeared include the Opera Theatre of St. Louis, the Aspen Music Festival, Eugene Opera, and the Utah Opera Ensemble. His European debut took place in Lucca , Italy , as Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola, followed by the Barga Music Festival. His recent Carnegie Hall debut in a staged version of Il Signor Bruschino was with Orpheus Chamber Ensemble.
